Lets Celebrate Unsung Irish Sporting Hero

Ever heard of Conor Niland?
No neither had I until this morning.
Conor carved out his own niche in Irish sporting history yesterday at Wimbledon.
He was the first Irishman to qualify for the tournament for thirty four years. YES since 1977.
He lost to Frenchman Adrian Mannarino 4-6,6-4,7-6,(9-7),4-6,6-4.
However the twenty nine year old ranked 184 in the world played well and even blew a 4-1 lead in the decider.
His efforts will live long in the memory of Irish sporting heros this year, of which there have been many.
As will the strains of The Fields of Athenry sung vociferously around Court 17 by his supporters.
In Ireland you do not have to be a winner to be a winner in sporting terms.
Thats what makes us special.
