How Irish are you ?Now you have the chance to find out From today people with Irish ancestery will find it easier to find it easier to trace those roots on the internet.
A total of 2 million documents and 20,000 photographs of Irish people from the 19th century are going on show on ancestry.co.uk
Records relating to the relatives of people as diverse as Barack Obama, Wayne Rooney and Pete Doherty are included.
The primary objective of The Irish Collection is to make it easier for people of Gaelic descent –such as 9.5 million Britons-to discover more about their backgrounds.
Fascinatingly it includes records from the years before and after the Irish Potato Famine of 1845-52, which drove many Irish people to begin new lives abroad.
Information on relatives of John F.Kennedy, Sir Paul Mc Cartney, Oacar Wilde, C.S. Lewis and Tory Chancellor George Osborne.

Among the documents going online are the Tithe Applotment Books of 1824 to 1837, which feature 600,000 land tax records of pre – famine Ireland.
The Lawrence Collection of Photographs has 20,000 pictures of Irish people and scenes from 1870 to 1910.
