Charlie Tully

Charles Patrick "Charlie" Tully 11th July 1924-27th July 1971 was a famous footballer for both Celtics, Belfast and Glasgow.
He was born in Belfast N.I.

In 1944 he was struggling to get into a very good Belfast Celtic first eleven. To gain valuable match practice he went on loan to Cliftonville in the north of the city.

After just ten games he returned to his West Belfast roots and a legend was born.Shortly later he scired the winner in the 1947 Cup Final.
The quality of his performances led to a move to the more illustrious Glasgow Celtic on 28th June 1948. He was to play 319 games for the club, scoring 47 goals in an unforgettable eleven years with the club.

The quality of his football, in particular his dribbling made him a legend and cult hero amongst followers of the Hoops.
"Tully" mania hit east Glasgow shortly after his arrival. Tully cocktails, TullyI ice cream and even Tully ties were on sale in the shops.

Very few players are as revered by so many fans so long after the end of their careers.
Charlie Tully is one of those few. A true Celtic legend. A legend that will never die in either Belfast or Glasgow.
